ASSUMPTIONS

In construction we make a bunch of assumptions. We have to.

There’s missing information and time marches on, there’s ‘work’ to be done, sometimes to the detriment of ‘good work’. So we are forced to assume the existence, of a piece of information regarding the scope of works. Again because we don’t really know all the details of the future.

This is where your problems are. If you quantify your assumptions on a project- truthfully and deliberately, then you have a good chance of success. A step in the right direction of ‘good work’.

However! This is stupid hard! But, do not fret. There are reliable ways of doing this. No silver bullets here though. It’s just straight up mathematics. About 8th to 10th grade math I think. Mainly because I’ve been stuck here… Maybe, you do need far more abstract math.

Nevertheless, what I’m trying to say is that ‘the problem of quantifying your assumptions reliably can be achieved by adopting a mathematical view that would be taught at a high school level in our current education systems.

But the other thing, that also needs to be learned here is the meaning of what assumptions are. Reader please assume you know the meaning.

Then you apply that word and it’s meaning to your everyday life and you discover that you make assumptions all the bloody time! This is so true, twisted, funny and scary rolled into one.

To know what you’re assuming is to know what you’re not! This is insane. This is like saying the only way to do something is by doing nothing. This is going into some yoga krap right now. although I think it might be true.

Stick with me on this one. I’m not very good at this.

What I am trying to convey is that-

It’s important to know, how much of what you know is true. Measure it and live with it. It’s yours. Apply this knowledge, pretty much everywhere.

It can be a source of great pleasure and bad times. Mostly fun I imagine.
